HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) Segmenter Home - HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) SegmenterMarkelSoft HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) Segmenter for Windows. Create, test and publish standard HTTP Live Streaming video files (.M3U8 and .TS) for an iOS device (iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch) and other platforms. HLS Segmenter is used to create, test and publish HTTP Live Streaming video.

Do you have a video you would like to stream on an iOS device or another platform that supports the HTTP Live Streaming standard? Now this is very easy to do with HLS Segmenter, which comes with canned settings for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch devices over both WiFi or 3G.

You can create your own custom settings to fine tune your output to your desires.

In addition to the easy-to-use user interface, command-line tools are provided which allow you to script conversions or integrate into conversions into your application or web server to provide live streaming.

Easy Steps to create HLS Video:

  1. Select Source Video - the video to create the HLS files for.
  2. Select Output Directory - this is the directory to create the .M3U8 and .TS files in.
  3. Enter Output Name - this is the prefix to use to create the .TS video files and the name for the M3U8 file. e.g. output name of 'video' creates the files: video-1.ts, video-2.ts, ... video-N.ts and video.m3u8
  4. Enter Server URL - this is the base URL for the web server where the files will be served from. This base URL is used in the M3U8 file.
  5. Select Target Device - this is the device that you will be playing the HLS video. There are canned settings for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch over both WiFi and 3G. Use Custom to create/use your own settings.
  6. Change the Output Settings - if you want to tweak the settings but only 'Custom' Output Settings are saved between HLS Segmenter sessions. If you change, e.g. iPad (640x480) on WiFi seconds / segment to be 12, the change is only good until you exit the HLS Segmenter application.
When the HLS processing has completed successfully you will be notified. You can them click View HLS Video to test the results on the built-in web server. You can click the View... button next to the Source Video area to view the source video for comparisions.

General Settings:

Home - iPlayAnywhere Help WikiSource Video - the source video file to create HLS files for. Notes: the '...' button does the same as the toolbar 'Select Source Video'. The 'View' button is used to view the source video using VLC.
Home - iPlayAnywhere Help WikiOutput Directory - the output directory to create HLS files in. e.g. from above '....\HLS_Output, which is the default output directory. Notes: the '...' button is used to select the output directory.

Home - iPlayAnywhere Help WikiServer URL - this is the base url for the server the HLS files will be server from. e.g. above is http://www.streamtunes.tv but is the server address where the HLS files will be served from.

Home - iPlayAnywhere Help WikiTest - once processing has completed and all the HLS output files are created, you can test your HLS video by clicking this button. HLS Segmenter has a built-in web server which is used to serve up your video files. Note: to do this all the created HLS files are copied to the HLS Segmenter web server jetty/docroot/HLS_Output directory and VLC is lauched to view the HLS video.
Home - iPlayAnywhere Help WikiPublish - once processing has completed and all the HLS output files are created, you can publish all the HLS output files to an FTP server. Once the files are published, VLC is launched to check out your published files. Note: before publishing you are prompted for th FTP server information which is saved for future use.

Home - iPlayAnywhere Help WikiSeconds/segment - specifies the size of each output .TS segment file in seconds. 10 seconds is recommended by Apple.
